support Black artists! about me
Hey!
My name is Adrienne Bennett. I am a Black femme visual artist and arts worker living in Manhattan, New York. As a first-generation New Jersey-raised Afro-Carribean, I am passionate about supporting contemporary artists of color and artisans. My practice employs cyanotype printmaking, drawing, glass bead making, and ultralight websites.
I am also a researcher with extensive archival and contemporary knowledge of visual art, art production materials, pop culture, textiles, fashion, the modern digital landscape, and technology. Currently, I am researching Ghanaian textiles featuring Adinkra symbols and the transitory use of those symbols in architecture and textiles in the U.S. and the Caribbean.
This has led me to sleuth around the public archives related to the preservation of graves of enslaved Black people in the U.S.
I am currently working on a book of sand and computer paper prints featuring Adinkra symbols.
